The 2025 Taiwan Lantern Festival is being held in Taoyuan City, and the lantern created by inmates from Hualien Prison won the Excellence Award in the Institutional Group category. This lantern integrates the themes of the Year of the Snake, Taoyuan International Airport, and the Land God culture, symbolizing Taiwan's economic strength and global connections. Since 2011, Hualien Prison has set up a lantern workshop to allow inmates to express their creativity and showcase their talents. Despite the challenges posed by limited resources and transportation difficulties in the eastern region, the lantern was successfully completed and received recognition from professional judges. The Superintendent, Mr. Huang Jing-Mou, stated that the lantern demonstrates the inmates' hard work and skills, while also boosting their confidence and social adaptability. The lanterns will be displayed from February 12 to 23, and the public is invited to visit and enjoy the exhibit.
